Track Name: In Love with a Band
they put it in perspective, right between my ears
they've been with me through varied times, in laughter and in tears
i've listened and i've followed now for so many years
oh, how i love this band in my life

i'm in love with a band
do you understand?
they're in step with the rhythm i be tappin' with my hand
my inner experience and all the imagery
is reflected in their lyrics back to me

i really like production tricks
they really pile 'em on
a world inside my headphones to which i've already gone
make me want to make music too
it's what i'm gonna do
oh, how i want to live that life

i'm in love with a band
do you understand?
they're in step with the rhythm i be tappin' with my hand
my inner experience and all the imagery
is reflected in their lyrics back to me

i stood in line for tickets once when i was seventeen
and then somehow i got backstage and got in on their green
i dreamt i read about it in a glossy magazine
oh, how i loved living that life

i'm in love with a band
do you understand?
they're in step with the rhythm i be tappin' with my hand
my inner experience and all the imagery
is reflected in their lyrics back to me
Track Name: Instant Crush
like an instant crush
i love the rush of emotion that flows
it's too much
i cannot wait until i see you aglow

what can i do to speed up the process?
if you even want me at all
please give me a sign or a definite answer
so i don't fall flat on my face and crawl away from you
i would like to know

what the fuck am i to do when i am feeling so stuck?
i'll try my luck following feelings that are running amok

i used to know what i was doing
now i don't think i know nothing at all
you'd think that this might be distressing
but i feel much better now than i can recall
i'm free to be who i'm after all
Track Name: The Circle of Time
you lead me down a primrose path
i left my keys behind
the grass was green, the sky was high
much more than i could climb

seems it's all just a state of mind
where we are upon the circle of time
the light it shines, but can it shine all over?
run for shelter in the shadow of you

you drew a beanstalk in sidewalk chalk
that reached up into the sky
you say you can't remember what you did back then
and i think i know why

seems it's all just a state of mind
where we are upon the circle of time
the light it shines, but can it shine all over?
run for shelter in the shadow of you
Track Name: Run for Your Life
run, run, run, run for your life
little missus is coming at you with a knife
just beneath her skirt, so neatly
just a smile from her can cure you completely

but still, i can't help feeling blue when i'm with you
it's just your words that's calling me to follow through
your painted heart is made of ocean waves and glue
i need a 7 Up cup for me to put my 7 Up in

run, run, run, run for your life
little missus is coming at you with a knife
just beneath her skirt, so neatly
just a smile from her can cure you completely

it's there alone that i'll escape into your tomb
our words are meaningless, but i will follow through with you
everything falls apart when i just have a few
outside the world is ending, but i'll know when it's new

run, run, run, run for your life
little missus is coming at you with a knife
just beneath her skirt, so neatly
just a smile from her can cure you completely
Track Name: Something Better Than Love
if you're dreaming of
something better than love
don't set your sights so high
if i knew back then
what i just forgot again
i'd keep you in my...

mind your own business baby
i've got a surprise
you'll find out in a moment
now cover your eyes
and when at last you find me
you're somehow right beside me

what were you expecting, something less or more?
what did you think that you would find behind my door?
can't say that i blame you
i tried my best to tame you

remember when we were new,
before i knew what i was getting with you?
feeling this way i forget what to say
why do you say you love me anyway?

i've got a funny feeling you've got an idea
to lead me back to square one instead of right here
what would it say about me to let you leave without me?

remember when we were new,
before i knew what i was getting with you?
feeling this way i forget what to say
why do you say you love me anyway?

if you're dreaming of
something better than love
don't set your sights so high
if i knew back then
what i just forgot again
i'd keep you in my mind
Track Name: Garden Party
"well, it seems like a garden party,"
said the man coming down the stairs
even if he's going nowhere
somewhere between the scraping of chairs on the floor
you'll find me scratching my name in the door

remind me to remember
remind me to remember
it's only December
when snow covers the ground
and all the angels we playfully made
will soon be covered by clouds
follow my sound, i'm always around
except in the instance that i'm not wanting to be found
Track Name: Under the Snow
here we go around the bend
so far under
where do i begin?
i don't know
so far under
let's do it again

under the snow
ten feet deep, you're still asleep below
under the snow
so far deep, you're still asleep below

we have, we have, oh, we have grown
paint it, paint it in letters of gold

here we go again
so far underneath again
just tell me when to stop and i'll go back underneath again

under the snow
ten feet deep, you're still asleep below
under the snow
just tell me when to stop and i'll go

we have, we have, oh, we have grown
paint it, paint it in letters of gold
we have, we have, oh, we have grown
paint it, paint it in letters of gold

and so we are back here again
down and under
just tell me when to stop, and i'll go down and under
let's do it again

we have, we have, oh, we have grown
paint it, paint it in letters of gold
we have, we have, oh, we have grown
paint it, paint it in letters of gold
Track Name: Often Wearing Headphones
i'm often wearing headphones
that's when i can't be reached
find me in a magic world that just my ears can see

when we stormed the castle, i was trembling my bones
every bit of my body, lord, was wishing i was home

when i find a mountain, i think i'll make it my home
maybe add a fountain and a geodesic dome

i'm still wearing headphones
despite what i might teach
anything you conceive of is right within your reach

somewhere behind some microphone
the singer makes me feel less alone
and now i understand why you'd want to start a band
Track Name: Bending Smiles
i think of going home but don't want to be alone
so i stay awhile, bending smiles
our little time on earth, i know what it is worth
so i spend it while sending out smiles
now, i thought i knew what i was missing

when i was a child i said "hello" once in a while
but not one to smile, a bashful child
now that we are here and we've said goodbye to fear
we can toss it out, bathwater with child
now, i thought i knew what i was missing

but i don't know the way out of my shell, way out of hell
i'm lonely as fuck, cannot you tell?

i don't know the way out of my shell, way out of hell
i'm lonely as fuck, cannot you tell?
i've begun to think i wear it well
that's why i sound my bell

give it up or live it up
you're never gonna fix yourself
give it up or live it up
you're never gonna fix yourself

well, live it up or give it up
you're never gonna fix yourself
well, live it up or give it up
you're never gonna fix yourself
well, give it up or live it up
you're never gonna fix yourself
well, give it up or live it up
you're never gonna fix yourself

but i don't know the way out of my shell, way out of hell
i'm lonely as fuck, cannot you tell?
i've begun to think i wear it well
that's why i sound my bell
Track Name: Fly on the Wall
if i was a fly on the wall
i would solve your mysteries
make up with the Kennedys
but pretend that i'm not me
pretend that i'm not me

moments of hesitation
degrees of separation
i'm just a creature of design
some kind of retribution
cascades of evolution
in sheets of burgundy and lime

my search for truth ends when i think i've gone too far
and then go twice as long just to find out that i'm wrong
find out that i'm wrong

there's too much information in need of verification
meant to be understood by nobody
wrapped up in allegory
it makes for a lovely story to feed your children when you die

i can't get the taste of your mouth out of mine
oh, how i miss your cherry cola kiss
unlaced, tastefully below
don't you know?
oh yeah, hope to say, "i told you so"

there's too much information in need of verification
meant to be understood by nobody
wrapped up in allegory
it makes for a lovely story to feed your children when you die
when you die
Track Name: False Flag Attack
big things are as big as small things can be
small things are as small as big things can be

how about calling all my stations?
crooked cowboys send salutations
Romeo and the slant plantation
can't believe they left you small
when you were born to be so tall

once upon a time ago
tell me if this is real
i knew every sense of mine was turned on just to feel

i found the answer and then i fell behind
came back again with a routine and fell in line
we'll never get back to that place again
the place we used to gather every now and again

there's a glowing in me that i cannot keep within
because my love is never-ending and it's just starting to begin
Track Name: (Burning All Our) Photographs
color magazines and photographs
every once in a while
i'm burning all our photographs
and doing it in style
and smiling 'bout all the looks you gave to me once in a while
once in a while
i remember you when you took ecstasy once in a while

years from now i'll find a photograph
every once in a while
now when i see those photographs
i hardly ever smile
all the while and all in spite of me
for miles and miles
for miles and miles
i met you the time you took LSD
it made me smile
it made me smile
Track Name: Big Indian, New York
this is where i want to be
not inside, but out to sea
all the scenes are here to stay
just to keep the shame away
all the notes you left behind
are just a look inside your mind
now you know the box is filled
with thoughts and books and apple peels

sail your ships across the sea
and bring your love right back to me
place it in a wooden cup
and hatch a bunch of baby ducks
never fail to set them free
and keep them safe inside of me
all the time that slips away
will come again some other day
Track Name: Certificate of Achievement
certificate of achievement
the world's best try
good, better, and best are all leaving
so here's your consolation prize

keep tapping your toes
and answering "no"
don't you know that i know that...

it's not that easy
it depends on where you start
it's not that easy
it could end with a broken heart

and we'll sing and we'll sing and we'll sing and we'll sing
and we'll sing and we'll sing and we'll sing and we'll sing
about love, about life, about all it's devices
and the played out hand we've been dealt here tonight
